Hi, my name's Dr.

0:02

Dominique McOwen.

0:03

Um, I did my undergraduate in, uh, biology.

0:07

I was pre-med, so I have a Bachelor's of Science in biology,

0:10

an associates of Science in chemistry,

0:13

and I'm minor in geology.

0:15

Um, and then I went to, uh,

0:17

postgraduate education in Australia.

0:19

Um, I grew up in Louisville, Kentucky,

0:22

so I actually studied our, our fossil reefs around here,

0:25

and that really piqued my interest in their ecology, uh,

0:28

their revolutionary biology.

0:29

Uh, we have old rubus and tablet corals.

0:32

Um, I could talk a lot about corals and most concepts.

0:35

Uh, I tried to explain with something I really like

0:39

and I suggest students do the same.

0:40

You find something that you can just sit

0:43

and talk about all day,

0:44

and then you learn a new concept through that.

0:46

Um, so I have a lot of different teaching styles that I use.

0:50

Um, a lot of different

0:52

and different ways of learning,

0:54

so I can help you find your best way of learning.

0:56

That is, uh, that's the best thing I've ever done

0:59

for myself, is tried a lot of different styles.

1:01

I'm very tactile learner, um, and I encourage that

1:05

and find different ways of doing that

1:08

for a lot of materials.

1:09

Um, so I, I mainly study ecology

1:12

and evolutionary biology, uh,

1:14

especially the marine side of things.

1:16

So, um, all the way back

1:19

to the I Karen Fauna moving forward, the Cambrian, uh,

1:23

explosion of what I call fossilize life when, uh,

1:27

stuff really started being able to be fossilized and,

1:30

and that's how we check it as, uh, really being the life

1:34

that we, uh, know of.

1:36

So anyway, lots of big topic discussions.

1:39

I like talking about mass extinctions, uh, climate change,

1:42

not just the problems, but the solutions to that

1:44

and how we can move forward

1:46

as a society and figure things out.

1:48

Um, so I'm all for teaching everybody how

1:51

to teach themselves so we can all unify

1:54

and be better people together.

1:55

So, um, I've had a fair bit

2:00

of tutoring experience, um,

2:02

and more so on later, like, like last five or years or so.

2:07

Um, but from, I've helped with kindergarten all the way up

2:11

to 12th grade, and then I teach as well, uh,

2:14

for different universities.

2:15

Um, so a little all over the place really.

2:19

I like having multiple jobs

2:21

and I like getting to really get in contact with people

2:24

and talk to people about what's going on.

2:26

So happy to do that. Um, I also tutor professionals

2:30

and have, uh, tutored, neuroscientists

2:32

and stuff on climate change and mass extinction.

2:34

So very happy to do that

2:36

and happy to talk you through some of the troubles that come

2:39

with that as well, and how you can protect yourself

2:41

and your own mental health.

2:42

Um, I've also studied virology, um, in my undergrad

2:45

and, uh, mosquito ecology.

2:48

So I, I've got a wealth of information, water quality, just,

2:52

uh, I'll teach you how to teach you.

2:54

Thank you.
